The Planning Supervisor will lead routine administrative, technical, and supervisory work in the Development Services Division related to the development and implementation of the following regulations: zoning, subdivision, townhome exemption development, commercial building design standards, floodplain, and related municipal plans and policies. The Planning Supervisor will exercise independent judgment and initiative in analyzing complex development proposals in coordination with the Permits and Land Use Manager. The successful candidate will build and maintain working relationships with the City Administration, City Council, Planning Board, Design Review Board, Board of Adjustment, State and Federal officials, representatives of the media and the general public to advance and support Community Planning, Development, & Innovation in their mission of promoting equitable growth and a resilient, sustainable community. (https://www.ci.missoula.mt.us/2728/Community-Planning-Development-Innovatio) Core duties and responsibilities to include: Perform advanced professional-level work in current planning as one of the lead planners for complex and controversial issues and projects. Provide leadership, direction, and coordinate the review of the current planning application, including reviewing reports for the Design Review Board and the Board of Adjustments. Ensure consistency in the review of land use and planning related matters such as building permits, floodplain permits, commercial building design standards, conditional use applications, and other complex land use applications. Prepare ordinances, regulations, resolutions, and staff reports with appropriate findings of fact and conclusions of law for complex land use development projects for review and approval by governing authorities. Identify and resolve critical issues affecting complex building and development permit applications for compliance with City Growth Policy, Design Overlay standards, floodplain, and Zoning regulations. Requirements for this job include: Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline (planning, urban studies, architecture, landscape architecture, environmental science, geography, etc.) and five years of progressively responsible experience reviewing building permits for compliance with design standards, zoning, conditional use applications, subdivision applications and rezoning applications for compliance with regulations, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience that may include project supervisor or staff supervision Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
