Director of Community Development and Planning Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt Pay: $103,334.40 - $115,502.40 per year Closing Date: June 2, 2022. First review of candidates is May 23, 2022. Lewis and Clark County is currently recruiting for Director of Community Development and Planning! Hosting the Capital City, Lewis and Clark County is rich in historic heritage. Our growing community has a lot to offer in the way of outdoor recreation, art, and culture. Under administrative direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, this position manages and directs the day to day activities and operations of Community Development and Planning Department and provides supervision to the department. Required Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to BA degree in planning, geography, business, public administration, or related field, plus five (5) years professional experience in planning, grant administration, policy development or related with four (4) years supervisory experience. Master’s degree and public sector planning experience preferred. Duties and Responsibilities • Directs the day to day activities of the Planning Department, including land-use planning, subdivision review and permitting; • Establishes the vision, mission, goals and objectives for the Planning Department; • Develops and implements departmental wide policies based on short and long-term strategic planning goals, management concepts and practices; • Carries out directives of the Board of County Commissioners and the Chief Administrative Officer; • Delivers presentations to supervisor, boards, commissions, and the general public; • Administers land use regulation; • Reviews land use policies to ensure compliance with laws and regulations; • Reviews growth policy and recommends amendments; • Manages Open Lands and historic preservation activities; • Coordinates activities between the Department and other entities, including but not limited to County Commission, planning board, civic organizations, industry/trade organizations, and citizens; • Prepares and monitors implementation of annual budget; assures that department functions are performed within budget; • Develops and administers staff work plans; assigns and schedules personnel; • Supervises and evaluates professional staff; • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with County policy, state and federal laws; • Monitors staff activities with respect to department work plans, goals and objectives; • Provides technical and professional advice to the planning board and the Board of County Commissioners; • May perform field and site inspections; • Assists in the training of staff.
