The MAP Board met this morning and made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 MAP Conference in Missoula until the fall of 2021. We will not be holding an in person conference this year.
If you have registered, we will be refunding your registration later this week. If you have made reservations at the hotel under the conference block, the hotel will be canceling those reservations, please double check with them if you do not receive notification.
The conference committee, made up of planners from Missoula County, the City of Missoula, and the Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization, have been meeting weekly for the past four months to organize the event. When the shutdown began in March, we decided on a wait and see approach. As time progressed, and we had the chance to decipher the details of the Phase II reopening, we realized the likelihood of holding an event that met our members objectives for education and networking was not logistically within our abilities.
We have not made any decisions about an online event. We might take a month or two to discuss our options. If you are in need of CM credits, there are options available through the American Planning Association and other state organizations.
I guess in the end this was not unexpected, but it is disappointing none the less. I hope everyone is staying safe, getting outside and enjoying the cycle of sun than snow that makes up a Montana June. I hope to see you all soon.
